Seasonal prevalence, risk factors, and One Health intervention for prevention of intestinal parasitic infection in underprivileged communities on the Thai-Myanmar border

BackgroundTha Song Yang District, located on the Thai-Myanmar border, contributes to second highest cases of amoebic dysentery due intestinal parasitic infections (IPI). However, there were limited disease prevalence data, specific surveillance systems, and interventions available.ObjectiveThis study aimed explore epidemiological features IPIs apply One Health (OH) approach solve IPI-related problems.MethodsPrevalence asymptomatic in human animals, yearly symptomatic cases, associated risk factors investigated. The OH intervention included improving knowledge, attitude, practice (KAP) community, microscopic diagnosis training, stakeholder engagement for IPI prevention designs.ResultsThe was much higher than that cases. Infective stages parasites discovered animal stool water samples, indicating possible transmission routes. year after intervention, significant declines dysentery. Significant improvements KAP awareness regarding manure-waste management community observed.ConclusionWe reported successful application reducing mitigating disease-related risks. might be applied address other infectious diseases future.
